Diversity and Inclusion

is an on going process of learning, growing and changing.

Forty Four is aware that systemic oppression is an insidious part of our societal construct.  We understand that privilege can cause  harm to those who understand its impact personally by those who do not acknowledge its harm.  We are committed to always be learning, growing and improving.  We are limited to our personal experiences and will always work to listen and understand when harm has been done.

We acknowledge the enduring presence and inherent rights of the Indigenous people here on Turtle Island from the various territorial and treaty lands where our team lives and works.  Forty Four works on the traditional lands of Indigenous people such as the Anishnaabeg which include the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Pottawatomi nations here in Simcoe County, as well as Mississaugas of the Credit, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat in the GTA.

As a company, we understand that our business is part of a larger community and that we have services and skills that can benefit everyone.  We provide low to no cost services to non-profits working to make equity and safety a reality for their community whenever possible.

Forty Four is committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.

We acknowledge that we work across various territorial and treaty lands here on Turtle Island.  Our team lives and works on the traditional lands of Indigenous people such as the Anishnaabeg which include the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Pottawatomi nations here in Simcoe County, as well as Mississaugas of the Credit, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat in the GTA.

Our human capital is the most valuable asset we have. The collective sum of the individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, inventiveness, innovation, self-expression, unique capabilities and talent that our employees invest in their work represents a significant part of not only our culture, but our reputation and company’s achievement as well.

We embrace and encourage our team members differences in age, colour, disability, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, veteran status, and other characteristics that make our team members unique.

Forty Four’s diversity initiatives are applicable—but not limited—to our practices and policies on recruitment and selection; compensation and benefits; professional development and training; social and recreational programs; layoffs; terminations; and the ongoing development of a work environment built on the premise of gender and diversity equity that encourages and enforces:

  • Respectful communication and cooperation between all employees.
  • Teamwork and employee participation, permitting the representation of all groups and employee perspectives.
  • Work/life balance through flexible work schedules to accommodate employees’ varying needs.
  • Employer and employee contributions to the communities we serve to promote a greater understanding and respect for the diversity.

All team members of Forty Four have a responsibility to treat others with dignity and respect at all times. All team members are expected to exhibit conduct that reflects inclusion during work, at work functions, and at all other company-sponsored and participative events. All employees are also required to complete diversity awareness training to enhance their knowledge to fulfill this responsibility.

Any team members found to have exhibited any inappropriate conduct or behavior against others may be asked to participate in a conversation with the team as a restorative practice or asked not to apply to future contracts.  Team members who believe they have been subjected to any kind of discrimination that conflicts with the company’s diversity policy and initiatives should seek assistance from a supervisor.
